Who we are…
The Pigeon River Garden Club is a volunteer-led nonprofit rooted in community, conservation, and civic beautification. Founded in 2020 and established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2021, we are dedicated to enhancing the natural beauty and well-being of Haywood County through horticulture, education, and food security initiatives.
Our mission is to inspire and support the beautification of public and private spaces, promote the health and educational benefits of gardening, and protect our natural resources. We focus our efforts in the towns of Canton, Bethel, Clyde, and Cruso, working both as a team and as individuals to partner with nonprofits, businesses, schools, and government organizations that share our goals.
We began with just six passionate members taking on small beautification projects in the Canton area. Since then, we’ve grown to over 30 active members and have completed more than a dozen major initiatives. Our most ambitious project to date is the creation of the Pigeon River Orchard and Public Gardens—a space designed to bring people together, improve access to healthy food, and promote environmental stewardship.
All of our projects are made possible through generous support from the community, including donors like the Cruso Endowment, Kiwanis of Waynesville, local businesses, and the tireless fundraising efforts of our members.
We welcome anyone who wants to get involved—whether by joining the club, supporting our work, or proposing new ideas. Reach out through this website or email us at pigeonrivergardenclub@gmail.com to learn how you can be part of the impact.
While there’s always more to do, our progress speaks for itself—not just in numbers, but in the joy, connection, and transformation we see in our neighbors and our landscapes. We believe in planting hope, growing community, and cultivating change—together.
